This three-hour session is designed for faculty members who want to deepen their capacity to engage race, racism, and intersectional identities in the classroom. Faculty explore their own educational philosophies regarding teaching at the intersections and work collaboratively to increase their awareness and emotional intelligence to address difficult conversations centered around race, gender, or sexuality. Faculty leave with tools to better support themselves and their students as they teach on issues of racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia.

White guilt is a powerful factor that is often not explored when addressing how to cultivate White allies who want to fight for greater social awareness, inclusion, and justice. This introductory sessions introduces foundational social justice concepts like racism, structural inequality, and oppression. What makes this session unique is its focus on asset and strengths based approaches to help White allies move into greater empowerment as they increase their capacity for greater collective action for social justice.

Children are born into society where there are already deeply held racial bias, norms, and stereotypes. Through socialization process, children ingest these negative racial biases from families, schools, places of worship, and from their peers. Helping children wade through these racialized stereotypes are critical to interrupt racism down the line. This session provided parents, caregivers, and educators with tips, tools, and suggestions for talking with children and youth about racism that are developmentally appropriate and research based.

The session examined A CRITICAL THEORY OF LOVE: EDUCATING FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE.  Social Justice Education is a powerful tool for social transformation. However, without centering theories of healing and liberation, social justice educators may unconsciously reproduce oppression. Participants gained a framework for developing a practice based in a #CriticalTheoryOfLove that centers love, healing, and wholeness in social justice education.
